Show Me The Money!

Thanks to CNet’s Buzz Out Loud podcast (episode 578) for calling attention to politicalbase.com. In addition to being able to compare candidates on issues and participate in conversations, this party-neutral site also allows us to watch in real-time the results of the political fund-raising efforts of each candidate!

Here is a live graph showing the fund-raising for the top candidates in the 2008 Presidential election. And, State-by-State fund-raising leaders here.

Unfortunately, wordpress.com does not allow their blogs to embed the graphs offered by the site.

Interesting how MN (normally a very Democratic state) is very close in our contributions to both parties $1m to Democrats and $800k to Republicans. What about Rudy out raising Mitt 4:1 with $331k vs. $77k. It would be interesting to see how dollars change the political landscape… how many candidates drop out because of finances vs. voter popularity? Even though the poor can’t help your campaign warchest they still count for 1 vote.

I’d also like to call attention to a hugely useful site: Maplight.org.

This site requires some time, but hot holy crap!!! It compares representatives’ votes to monetary contributions they received.

Is there a correlation between the amount a rep received and how they voted? Look it up!
