Senator Franken

After 8 long months, we finally have two Senators again.  I voted for Al Franken, so I’m happy that he has finally won.  But, my happiness was just soured by a co-worker whose IM status reads “Franken joins Ahmadinejad in election stealing success!”  Wow.

Coleman said “Further litigation damages the unity of our state,” during a news conference held at his St. Paul home.  That assumes there was unity to begin with.

Didn’t take long for Rupert Murdoch’s WSJ to join in the “stolen election” chorus:

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124640687950076679.html

“This is now the second time Republicans have been beaten in this kind of legal street fight. In 2004, Dino Rossi was ahead in the election-night count for Washington Governor against Democrat Christine Gregoire. Ms. Gregoire’s team demanded the right to rifle through a list of provisional votes that hadn’t been counted, setting off a hunt for “new” Gregoire votes. By the third recount, she’d discovered enough to win. This was the model for the Franken team.”

“Mr. Franken now goes to the Senate having effectively stolen an election. If the GOP hopes to avoid repeats, it should learn from Minnesota that modern elections don’t end when voters cast their ballots. They only end after the lawyers count them.”

They didn’t seem to mind when Jim Baker called the 2000 recount a “street fight.” At least they got a two-term president out of the deal.

Franken to Linbaugh: “You’re a big fat idiot.”
Limbaugh to Franken: “Your states election system is like Iran’s”

    Eric Black just wrote:

Unbelievable. True, El Rushbo may have grounds for begrudging a Senate seat to a former author who once called him “a big, fat idiot.” But I don’t care. Comparing Minnesota’s election to the recent one in Iran is idiotic.
Limbaugh did it Tuesday. The audio is here.
Or, if you prefer to read it
LIMBAUGH: “Look at this. From Iran’s press television, the state-run media in Iran: Ahmadinejad gains votes in recount, just like in our country! It had — just like in our country. Norm Coleman wins in Minnesota in a recount, and they keep having recounts, and Al Franken wins. So they had the recount in Iran, and shazzam! Ahmadinejad gained votes!”
